N95 MP3 Dilemma - 5 Hours of Playback

yea, this is actually more about the Achilles Heal of the N95- the paltry 950 mAh BL-5F battery... I did the MP3 playback test until the battery is fully drain... and what do I got? a mere 5 Hours of MP3 playback... here are the details of the two MP3 Playback Testing, yea I did 2 and a 3rd one is on going as well...

1st Test Configuration:

  • Input Unit- N95 with SanDisk 2GB microSD
  • Connector- Nokia CA-75U Audio/Video Connector
  • Output Unit- Marantz Integrated Stereo Amplifier PM-53 with NAD 801 Stereo SpeakersI

1st Test Details

the N95 is fully charged, the EGSM radio is on, the GPS is also selected (I will get to this latter) everything is as normal as it is, I also got a short call of about 1 min. and all I got is a mere 5 hours of continuous MP3 Playback...

2nd Test Configuration:

  • Input Unit- N95 with SanDisk 2GB microSD
  • Connector- Nokia AD-43 Audio Connector/Remote Controller
  • Output Unit- Nokia HS-45 Stereo Headset

2nd Test Details

the N95 is fully charged, the EGSM radio is on, the GPS is DISABLED- well, somebody hinted that disabling the Internal GPS of the N95 is supposed to lengthen the battery life...

how to disable the GPS??? you goto Menu/Tools/Settings/General/Positioning and Disable Integrated GPS

other than this, everything is normal as the 1st Test, and what do i get, the same 5 hours of playback...

3rd Test Configuration:

  • Input Unit- N95 with SanDisk 1GB microSD
  • Connector- Nokia AD-43 Audio Connector/Remote Controller
  • Output Unit- Nokia HS-45 Stereo Headset

3rd Test Details

everything the same as 1st Test, however the microSD is only 1GB... well, it didn't also do any help at all it is still the same paltry 5 hours of MP3 playback...

Test Conclusion

for now i think there is no need for any 4th Test, we can safely conclude that the N95 is only capable of 5 hours of continuous MP3 playback which kinda sucks coz the others Nokia phones can easily do 10 hours or more...
